Canal Breach

Early Wednesday morning, April 15, an irrigation pipe above the District's main canal west of Umatilla broke, eventually causing water and silt from the adjacent bank to flow into and around the main canal.  By 6 am, the canal had breached and 60 cfs of water was heading through the private properties, down and around Kurz Lane and onto Highway 730.  There are many reports on facebook and local media about the incident.

District crews and farmer volunteers got busy repairing Kurz Lane, that had washed out, and removing silt from the canal. We were able to start the canal back up on Monday April 20th.  We want to thank everyone that helped out.

This is a tough time for us, but also for the folks directly impacted by the canal breach.  Our thoughts and prayers are with them.  We are all inspired by the way the community is pulling together as we navigate getting to the other side of this unfortunate failure.
